Itinerary
For some people, the challenge is the sheer distance walked each day. For others, it might be the lack of home comforts! We want you to complete this challenge and we'll work with you to help you reach your personal goals.
Day 1 - London to BeijingOvernight flight from London Heathrow to Beijing.
Day 2 - Beijing to Simatai Lodge
Arrive in Beijing and transfer to Simatai Lodge, close to the Great Wall.
Day 3 – Jingshanling to Gubeiko
Transfer to the Great Wall to begin first day of trekking at Jingshanling, one of the lesser visited areas of the Great Wall. After lunch, walk through a local village and head to Gubeiko for a short transfer back to Simatai Lodge for second night.
Day 4 - Jinshanling to Simatai
Trek along the Great Wall from Jinshanling passing through 32 watchtowers to Simatai. Enjoy spectaclar scenery along the path of the undulating Wall (some parts of the Wall have uneven steps and loose stones). Return to Simatai Lodge for final night - optional zip-wire landing over the Samatai valley for daredevils.
Day 5 - Simatai to Gangfang
Trek the steep east-section of the Great Wall from Simatai, walking mostly uphill. Views become increasingly dramatic along the route. Descend into Mongolia for a few hours, through stunning valleys, passing local farms and to Gangfang village for lunch. Head back to Simatai and transfer to Wuzoulou Lodge.
Day 6 - Wuzoulou Mountain
A wonderful day’s trekking to the top of spectacular Wuzoulou Mountain, reaching the highest point at 1,100m. In the morning, a walk through forest and shrubbery; lunch is at the top with time to enjoy the stunning views of the nearby gorges, reservoirs and isolated watchtowers on the last part of the Wall built in the Ming dynasty. After lunch, a descent on a different route back to Wuzoulou Lodge.
Day 7 - Black Dragon Pool Park
Trek through Black Dragon Pool Park. This is mostly uphill in the morning, walking through the Jingling valley and gorges. After lunch, we descend downhill through the park, enjoying the scenery as we go, before transferring to Mountain Bar Lodge.
Day 8 - Mutianyu
Final day's trekkking along the Great Wall at Mutianyu to the furthermost accessible point. Here, the Wall has been renovated to resemble its original grandeur. This is a challenging part of the trek, ending with steps up a steep incline. The effort is rewarded by stunning views and the chance to see the Wall for miles – a perfect place to end the challenge. Transfer to Beijing and our hotel in the heart of the city.
Day 9 - free day in Beijing
The chance to relax and explore Beijing before the celebration gala dinner in the evening.
Day 10 - Beijing to London
Afternoon flight back to London Heathrow.
