More Challenge Details

Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle Ride

Accommodation

You will spend seven nights in hotels during this challenge. The hotels are comfortable but not luxurious. Outside the tourist areas of Ho Chi Minh City, in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap the accommodation is likely to be basic and you should be prepared for lower standards than you would expect in western Europe.

All rooms are shared (usually twin or triple-bedded) single sex rooms. If there is someone in particular you would like to share a room with, let us know on your registration form.

What to take

Bikes are provided. The standard sized frame is 18 inches and they are 18 gear middle of the range mountain bikes. Each participant must bring their own helmet which is to be worn at all times when cycling. We advise participants to take their own saddle or a gel seat cover to avoid getting saddle sore on the first few days.

You main luggage will be transported for you in the support vehicles, all you will need to carry is your daily essentials when cycling. We suggest that participants take a decent sized bum bag to wear when cycling for sun cream, tissues and waterproof jacket or poncho. A full kit list will be provided upon registration.

Fitness level

This cycling challenge is designed for people of average fitness as long as you are prepared to train. Whilst the majority of people taking part in these cycling challenges are not cyclists, you should make sure you are fit enough to manage these distances confidently and be comfortable cycling along uneven terrain, so we advise you start training as soon as you sign up.

You can expect to be cycling for approximately eight hours per day for five consecutive days. There are some short sections of off road cycling; otherwise it is all on road which at times is undulating. Distances are fairly long, varying from 71 kilometres to 112 kilometres per day. When you register we will send you a training guide to help get you started.

Can I extend my stay after the challenge?

There is limited availability for people to extend their stay after the challenge. We will send you more details about this opportunity once you have registered.

Support on the challenge

On the challenge itself, there will be a UK leader, an English speaking doctor and local guides who will accompany the group. The local guides are very knowledgeable about the country and route. There will also be support staff to take care of you. A local mechanic will be on hand to ensure everyone has an appropriately sized bicycle. They will travel with the group to carry out any repairs.

There will also be support vehicles with you every day to carry water, refreshments, the doctors, bicycles and spares, luggage and people who may be tired. There will always be a vehicle or guide at the front of the group which no cyclist can overtake and a vehicle or guide at the back which no cyclist can go behind.

Although this cycle ride is designed to challenge you, we are not putting anyone’s safety at risk and support will be available at all times. Guides will be on hand every step of the way, to help and advise you.
