Ocean Angels Indian Rowing Challenge
Ocean Angels Indian Rowing Challenge
The Ocean Angels are four young women: Elin Haf Davies, Fiona Waller, Sarah Duff and Jo Jackson.
The foursome have set themselves the challenge of a lifetime - rowing 3,100 nautical miles across the Indian Ocean, in a 29 foot rowing boat, all to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.
They are very close to completion of their immense challenge; having set off on 19 April and after over 70 days of sea. The Ocean Angels aim to create history by becoming the first women ever to row across the Indian Ocean, thus setting a new World Record. Prior to this only two people have successfully rowed the Indian Ocean unassisted. In contrast, more than a thousand times this number have reached the summit of Mount Everest and in fact more people have walked on the moon!
The Angels are within touching distance of dry land and successfully completing this amazing challenge. During their time at sea the girls will have rowed for over 622 hours, slept for 280 hours, eaten over 220 meals out of a bag and enjoyed consuming three chocolate bars a day to ensure energy levels are maintained.
In comparison, those engaging in a more regular lifestyle (i.e. not rowing 3,100 nautical miles!) are more likely to have enjoyed 504 hours of sleep, eaten over 220 non mushy/bag contained meals, had the privilege of using a tap to get water , exercised for a meagre 30 hours or so and not justified to eat three chocolate bars a day (sadly)!
