Why we need your support
Thank you for your interest in taking part in an event to fundraise for Breast Cancer Care. This is a brilliant way to support us, helping to raise awareness of breast cancer as well as raising money for the charity.
What is Breast Cancer Care?
Breast Cancer Care is the leading provider of breast cancer information and support across the UK. We are committed to providing accessible, high-quality services for everyone affected by breast cancer. All of our services are free and include a helpline, website, publications, and practical and emotional support.
- Last year we had over 22,000 enquiries to our helpline, from women and men with breast cancer, their families and friends. Our specialist nurses and trained volunteers offer information to anyone affected by breast cancer.
- We distribute more than 15,000 publications each week to people with breast cancer and the hospital staff who advise and treat them.
- We run telephone support groups, a prosthesis fitting service, healthy living days and educational programmes for women with breast cancer across the UK.
- www.breastcancercare.org.uk receives more than 1,750 site visitors every day.
Who does Breast Cancer Care help?
Breast Cancer Care’s services are available to anyone with a breast cancer concern - women and men with breast cancer and their partners, families and friends; those who fear they may have breast cancer or who have other breast health concerns; members of the general public; health professionals; the media.
Breast Cancer Care also offers breast awareness and screening information. We receive over two million requests for support and information each year, with the helpline itself receiving thousands of enquiries.
Why does Breast Cancer Care exist?
- The lifetime risk of women developing breast cancer in the UK is one in nine.
- Over 41,000 women and 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.
As the leading national breast cancer support charity, Breast Cancer Care is committed to ensuring that those affected by breast cancer have access to the best possible care and treatment.
How does Breast Cancer Care exist?
Breast Cancer Care relies on donations from the public to provide its services free to clients. The money that you raise can help us provide the following:
-
£36 could pay for the cost of a call to our free confidential helpline, offering information and support to anyone affected by breast cancer.
-
£100 could train a volunteer to provide one-to-one emotional support for women and men with cancer and their partners.
-
£166 could pay for an appointment with our breast prosthesis fitting specialist.
- £200 could provide accurate and easy-to-read information booklets for 400 women with breast cancer.
