We have fundraisers organising events for us all over the country throughout the year. Take a look at our events calendar to see what we have coming up...
Renaissance photographic competition 2009
Following the success of the Renaissance photographic competition in March, the Lavender Trust is looking forward to the event in 2009. This prestigious competition raised an outstanding £30,000 for the charity and will be launched this year on 15 September 2008.
Organiser Fiona Gifford, a 35 year old lawyer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and launched the competition inviting photographers to submit photographs to a theme that was based out of Fiona’s experience of her illness:
‘Despite all the negative feelings during the months of treatment there were paradoxically moments of great joy and energy. I hope that this competition will be a celebration of life and love in the face of adversity.’
With over £5,000 in cash prizes and photographic equipment to be won entrants also have the chance to be exhibited at a high-profile private view in London. Judges for this year’s competition will include Magnum photographer Martin Parr, former Guardian picture editor Eamonn McCabe and acclaimed landscape photographer Charlie Waite.
Last year photographs were exhibited in the Proud Gallery, central London and auctioned off at a celebrity Gala Party with attendees including Cherie Booth Q.C., Katie Derham and David Mitchell.
We are setting up a committee to help in organising Renaissance so if you feel inspired please contact Hayley on 020 7960 3446 or email hayleybi@breastcancercare.org.uk.
Entry to the competition will be open from 15 September 2008 via the Renaissance website www.renaissancephotography.org.
