Trek to the Great Wall of China
The challenge begins in Beijing…From here we travel to Simatai where we see the Great Wall of China for the first time and begin our trek. For six days we walk along the wall and through the countryside which surrounds it. On our final day we reach and climb the Stairway to Heaven, and with its spectacular views from the top it is the perfect place to end our challenge.
This trek will take us off the beaten track and far away from the tourist trails. We will walk through remote isolated villages and farmlands, up a mountain, and along the oldest sections of the Great Wall of China.
Leaving the wall behind on Day 8, we travel back to Beijing where to have time to explore the city, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City before celebrating our achievements at our gala night.
Fitness
The Great Wall of China is covered in steps! This means you need to train for walking up and down these steps and you will want to be of average fitness to get the most enjoyment out of this trek.
The steps on the Great Wall come in a variety of sizes – big, narrow, small, tall, deep and wide, and so they will take some effort to walk up and down. However, when we aren’t walking over steps the wall is mostly flat! The terrain off the wall is undulating with occasional steep ascents and descents.
Weather in China
During the trek the temperature is likely to reach 25°C in the day, and should be sunny and bright. There is always the likelihood of rain, so do come prepared with waterproofs. The temperature will drop in the evening and it can get very cold, so we will need to pack warm jumpers.
Accommodation on trek
We stay in lodges throughout this challenge. They are basic but comfortable and come with en-suite bathrooms. Rooms are twin or triple share. In Beijing at the end of the trek we stay in a 3* hotel near Tiananmen Square.

- Non-refundable registration fee: £250
- Minimum sponsorship target: £3,250
- The cost of the trek including flights from London is £1569. These costs are paid from your minimum fundraising.
