Yukon Arctic Ultra 2009

Yukon Arctic Ultra banner 2

You may have heard of extreme challenges but this one is to rival all. Si Bayliff, Jules Bartlett, Carlyle Jenkins and Andy Pocock are the four men that make up River and Mercantile Team Helmut Adventure Racing (see the photo at the bottom of the page) and are taking on the Yukon Arctic Ultra in February 2009 with the aim of raising £50,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

About the event

The Yukon Arctic Ultra is the most extreme endurance footrace in the world. The team will cover 515kms, (that’s 12 ½ marathons) non-stop in six days enduring temperatures of -30C, while pulling a sled laden with essential survival gear. The temperature, terrain, lack of food and sleep that this challenge entails has meant that only 47 people in the world have ever completed it despite many numerous attempts.

River and Mercantile Team Helmut sets off for this immense challenge on 11th February 2009 taking them to the Northern Arctic tip of the Yukon Territory in Canada. The route will then take them along the infamous and brutal Yukon Trail during the very bleak Canadian winter season. To prepare for this challenge the men have been training in Richmond Park with full kit and pulling rubber tyres to simulate the weight of the sledges they will be hauling. This has generated a lot of interest and the team has been amazed by the response and would like to extend their thanks for all the support from their sponsors and the general public.

We are delighted that the team has chosen to support Breast Cancer Care and in turn hope you will choose to support these four amazing men in their challenge either by sponsoring them or buying one of their limited edition Buff headwear garments.
