London Marathon
26 April 2009
The London Marathon raised more than £40 million for charity last year and continues to rank at the top of most people’s ‘to do’ lists. Why not tick it off your list in 2009 and run for Team Breast Cancer Care?
Widely recognised as the best marathon in the world, it offers everything you could want from a race - a high quality course, enthusiastic charity runners, an inspiring and interesting route, brilliant organisation and an exhilarating atmosphere. Last year's race was testament to that.
Where else in the world would so many people flock onto the streets to cheer on runners in the searing heat?
How to enter
Unfortunately the general ballot for the event has now closed. Should you have been lucky enough to get your own place through the ballot, we would love for you to join the team. Please contact us using the details below and we will support you every step of the way.
Guaranteed entries
Every year Breast Cancer Care has a limited number of guaranteed entries for the London Marathon. In line with many other charities, we are looking for people who can commit to raising at least £1,500, for their guaranteed place. This is the minimum sponsorship amount we request, so please think carefully about what you can realistically raise for the charity. Rest assured, we are on hand to offer fundraising and training advice to all our runners.
If you would like to apply for one of these entries, please download the application form below. If you would rather we send you the form, please call us on 0845 092 0804 or e-mail us at londonmarathon@breastcancercare.org.uk.
Fundraising
If you are lucky enough to gain a place in the ballot drawn in October, we hope you will choose to join our team. By choosing to support Breast Cancer Care, we do ask that you pledge to raise money for the charity.
There is no minimum amount, we just ask that you raise as much as possible. In order to help you we will send you a pack full of tips and sponsorship forms and will be on hand to offer advice and answer any of your queries.
How we will support you
In return for pledging to raise money for us we will support you by providing you with:
- A state of the art running vest
- A support pack full of fundraising and training advice
- A training plan and top tips from our sports ambassador Denise Lewis
- Support and advice from a dedicated member of the sports team
- Regular newsletters and emails to keep you updated
- A goody bag packed with everything you need to get you back on your feet!
- Fundraising materials to help you including balloons, posters and collection tins
- And of course... a big cheer round the course on race day!
If you already have a place
If you've deferred an entry from the 2008 race or have been lucky enough to gain your own place through the ballot (drawn in October 2008) we would love you to join the Breast Cancer Care team. We support all our runners in the same way. To join the team please email running@breastcancercare.org.uk with:
- Your name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Running vest size
Alternatively, contact us on 0845 092 0804. Once you are signed up we will send you a race support pack and a running vest to get you started.
Race day cheering points
Breast Cancer Care will be there on the day cheering you on! Family and friends are welcome to join our cheering squad. In 2008 we were at mile eight and mile 18, with our megaphone and pink balloons. In 2008 we will be equally prominent and we would love as many people as possible to join us!
