Who can take part in the Pink Ribbonwalk?

The Pink Ribbonwalk is open to women and men of all abilities. The minimum age to take part is 16, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult. We request that there is at least one adult present for every two under age participants.

How fit do I need to be?

It does not matter if you are an experienced walker or have never done anything like this before as long as you put in the training. It is designed to be challenging but achievable. There is plenty of time to train and training tips are included in your support pack, which you will receive when you sign up. You will be supported every step of the way by Breast Cancer Care.

How much is it to take part in the Pink Ribbonwalk ?

When do I have to sign up by?

Participants enter on a first come first served basis. Entries will close once the event limit is reached for health and safety reasons, so we would strongly encourage you to sign up straight away which will also give you more time in which to raise your minimum £175 sponsorship.

Parking facilities are available for all participants and their supporters.

Each participant will receive a car park pass nearer the time to gain entry into the venues in order to park in the Pink Ribbonwalk designated car park. Please follow the directions of the car parking stewards on arrival. Allow extra time for your journey as the roads on the approach to the venues may become congested.

How long will it take to walk the 20 mile and 10 mile route?

We anticipate that the 20 mile walks should take between six and ten hours to complete, including rest stops. The 10 mile walks should take between three and five hours including rest stops.

Will the 10 mile and 20 mile walkers meet on the day?

There will be two separate start times for the 10 mile and 20 mile walkers, but the routes have been designed so walkers will all come together at a certain point.

This allows all participants to walk back to the finish line together for a triumphant celebration!

Where do the Pink Ribbonwalk events finish?

As the Pink Ribbonwalk events are circular walks, you will finish back at the starting point.

Where can my friends and family go on the day?

‘Cheering Stations’ will be positioned at various points along the route and will be accessible by car to friends and family who wish to offer support, so do invite them to come along.

Further details of these Cheering Stations will be provided in your monthly e-newsletters.

What is the route like?

The Pink Ribbonwalk events take place in the grounds of beautiful stately homes, surrounded by stunning scenery. As the walks are in the countryside, you will encounter all sorts of terrain including fields, country and private lanes, grassy meadows, uneven farmland, undulating forest trails, footpaths and riverside walks.

There will be some sections of the walk that will require you to walk in single file so please be considerate of your fellow walkers. There will also be a small number of roads to cross but these will be marshalled at all times, however please cross with caution. Because these walks are in the countryside, unavoidably there will be some stiles. We have tried to minimise these and where possible there will be marshals stationed at these points to help walkers over them.

You also have some hills to conquer, with great views from the top, so aim to practice on some steeper terrain before the day.

Will there be any toilet facilities available?

Toilets will be provided at the start/finish areas and at the rest stops at regular intervals along the route.

Will there be any food or refreshments provided?

Water will be provided for all participants at the rest stops at regular intervals along the route, along with some fruit and snacks to keep your energy up. However, we recommend that you carry some water and your lunch with you in your daypack. A BBQ will be provided for you when you cross the finish line.

Is there somewhere near by where I can stay?

As the 20 mile event requires an early start, participants may wish to stay locally the night before. There is a wide selection of hotels and guesthouses in the local areas. Visit www.bedandbreakfasts.co.uk for more information.

What support will I be given on the route?

You will be well supported and guided throughout the walk and there will always be someone friendly to talk and walk with. Pink Ribbonwalk signs will be clearly placed all the way along the route.

At regular intervals along the route there will be marshals to help guide and encourage you on your way. Please do listen to any advice or guidance they may offer you, as they are there to ensure you enjoy your special day.In addition, along the route there will be several Rest Stops with volunteers who can help answer any of your questions.

Should you need any assistance whilst on the route we will provide you with a contact number for on the day. To help identify participants, please wear your free Pink Ribbonwalk T-shirt and personal walking number.

Can I run the Pink Ribbonwalk events?

The Pink Ribbonwalk events are walking events. For the safety of the other participants, yourself and the general public who we also share parts of the routes with, no running is permitted.

What will happen when I finish?

All participants will receive a well deserved medal and a BBQ meal when you cross the finish line (your friends and family are also welcome to purchase the BBQ meal).

In addition, there will be a few special treats on offer for you to enjoy as our way of saying thank you for the hard work and dedication you have shown.

Can I bring a pushchair?

As there are some less accessible sections we cannot allow children or pushchairs on the route, although they are more than welcome to come and cheer you on.

Is the route accessible for wheelchair users?

If you would like to join the Pink Ribbonwalk and you are a wheelchair user please contact pinkribbonwalk@breastcancercare.org.uk to find out more.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs at the event must be under the control of their owner and kept on a lead at all times. If you wish to bring your dog, please assess your dog's fitness before the event and be happy that they are capable of completing the 10 or 20 mile route.

We recommend that your dog accompanies you on your training before the event so they become used to walking long distances, at your pace and on a lead.

Please also consider weather conditions. Last year it was very hot and some dogs were struggling and unable to finish. Please be aware that the routes pass through farmland where there are sheep, cows and horses as well as parkland where deer roam.

If I don’t want to take part in the event can I help instead?

We are always looking for volunteers to help make the Pink Ribbonwalk a success. We could not put on the events without their support.

We are looking for people on the day to come and help with a variety of roles. For more information visit our page on other ways to help.
