Trek Peru to Machu Picchu
This charity trek takes place between:
11 - 20 September 2010
Trek to Machu Picchu
The challenge begins in Cusco…From here we trek for five days through the towering peaks and valleys of the Peruvian Andes and the Sacred Valley, on our way to the lost city of the Inca’s Machu Picchu.
During this trek you will experience the dramatic scenery of the Lares region as we walk a remote and adventurous route on this charity challenge. Taking in farmlands, traditional villages, spotting giant condor, llamas and alpacas on our way we soon find ourselves at KM104.
On our last day of trekking in Peru, we join the Inca Trail. We walk up and up and up passing magnificent Incan archaeological sites before we arrive at the Sungate. We leave the Inca Trail here and celebrate our achievements and the end of trek at the gateway to breathtaking Machu Picchu.
Trekking in Peru means walking at altitude…
Hiking at altitude throughout this walk is challenging but achievable to those of good fitness. Altitude can affect you from 2, 500m and there is no telling if you will be affected by it or not. We will ensure all trekkers are thoroughly prepared for walking at altitude in Peru before we leave Cusco.
Accommodation on trek
We will stay in hotels before and after the trek in Cusco, and Aguas Calientes and three nights in tents throughout the challenge. All of our meals on trek will be prepared for us. Washing facilities at camp are basic but this is all part of the challenge.

Weather
We expect the weather to be dry and clear, giving us some spectacular mountain views. Temperatures during the day will be warm, around 20–22ºC, which is average for this time of year with the chance of rain.
As we reach higher altitudes it will feel colder at night, sometimes below 0ºC, making a good sleeping bag and layers of clothing essential.
